Old style brown gasket removal

A guy asked about brown gasket removal.

How I do it:

-you should be able to carefully pry up from PV airwell

-Chemtool B12

-let soak a minute

-scrape off all wet material

-when it gets back to hard dry material reapply B12

-scrape off all we material

-reapply solvent

Using a very dull knife is key. Do not dig in, you are really just brushing back and forth. The more you can get under it with the solvent the better.

I tried to save chromate to make a point here. Normally my last run is with a super fine stainless brush. I’m restoring these so I’ll be removing the chromate anyway.

The main takeaway is to get under it and roll the gasket up. No magic, just effort and patience.

Yes this carb will take an extra half hour to take apart, but no big deal really
